L&T Branch - Track Work Completed...

Well today I got a major run at installing the remaining track work and electrical feeders, and we have finally finished!  This marks a pivotal point for the JL&T because it is the completion of the major portion of track work for the top deck.
Apart from a few sidings and spurs to be finalised and added there is no more track work to be installed, this means I can now move onto other aspects.  Either installing the remaining tortoises for the mainline or looking at signals and CTC.
Anyhow here are a few photos of the completed L&T Branch...
More to follow as I start to install some structure, scenery and begin to weather and detail the area...

JL&T Module - Inaugural Locomotive Run

Here is a short video of the very first powered locomotive to venture onto the JL&T module.  This is now connected to our layout via the L&T Branch...

JL&T Module connected to the L&T Branch...

Well tonight marked the first track work to be done on the L&T branch and the layout in general since I had a little break whilst sorting out our house issues.

I managed to connect (for the very first time) the JL&T Module to the layout, the L&T Branch to the main layout too.  This was achieved via a 90 degree crossover located on the L&T Branch.
The JL&T Module has been powered and for the very first time since it was constructed a locomotive under it's own power rode the rails onto the JL&T Module, to mark this auspicious occasion a small video was produced that I will get to over the next couple of nights and post later.

So stay tuned for more, once the track work on the L&T Branch is finished I'll be able to start adding scenery and all the fun stuff...
Cheers,
Jas...

JL&T Railroad Blog - Cleaning Up a few Small Jobs...

Hi All,
Well today I started back on the JL&T and the first of several small jobs to be completed was a quick tidy up, and the installation of a backing board for the work station & maintenance area.

This will be used to store all the odds & ends I've accumulated now and certainly more into the future, the right hand side may also be used as our Control Panel for CTC when I get around to installing everything that goes along with it.
This area will also house the dispatcher for future operating sessions, it has the main PC running JMRI, and also the NCE power pack and Command Station.
Next step will be to do some track work on the L&T Branch, and some more lining of the walls in this area.
Cheers,
Jas...

JL&T Railroad Blog - Layout gets Broadband/Internet...

Hi All,

One of the first of the unfinished jobs that I wanted to complete since the JL&T received it's reprieve was to get an internet connection in the layout room.

Because of the distance between the house and the layout room, and the shed being constructed with metal sheeting (colourbond) WiFi was not going to be a viable option.  So I needed to run a hard wire Cat5 cable from our study to the layout room.

So yesterday I ran 65 metres of Cat5 from the study through the rook space and down through a conduit in the backyard to the shed.  The cable just reached and just needs the ends terminated and connected to the modems.

Hopefully in the next couple of days I will a dedicated internet connection in the layout ready to stream some layout time via Skype / Facetime - iChat for any of you who'd care to drop in and have a look.

Cheers,

Jas...
