Power Districts, BDL168's, PSX-AR & PSX-1 Locations...

At our last Ops Session we noticed that Rutherford Yard was tripping the entire layout (through the DCC Command Station) via the common rail.

Fairly easy to fix that section but I also noticed the problem was going to exist on other parts of the layout too.  So last night and today I have been tweaking our layout schematic with the locations of the BDL168's and the future locations of the PSX-1's that I will use to protect the various areas of the layout.

There is nothing worse during an Ops Session than having one short take out multiple sections or worse the entire layout.  Therefore as I'm beginning to have more structured & formal operating sessions this has become the priority to fix...

Below is the first draft of the wiring and the individual power districts along with the PSX-AR's & PSX-1's.

  1. Ah, nothing like more wiring! Your favorite part of the hobby, he said facetiously. :) What you are experiencing is exactly the reason why, by some accounts, I went totally overboard with my power districts. The LK&O has 16 power districts on the upper deck alone. All are both rail complete isolation. Within those 16 districts are 34 occupancy detection blocks. Doing it this way required a lot of circuit breakers, occupancy detectors, and rail gaps but in the end affords great flexibility for signaling, grade crossings, etc. It also makes sure trouble in one spot affects only a very small portion of the layout. I hope your wiring process moves along quickly without causing you much grief.

  2. Yep wiring again Alan! The thorn is my side...
    To be honest it was something I picked up a little awhile ago it just didn't really matter back then as I wasn't running ops sessions. Now it has happened every time we have run one, so its time to deal with he issue.
    I'll be right once the PSX-1's arrive I'm hoping it will be a day or two fix... Jas.
