Painting Bridge Abutments & Ballasting...

Finished off today painting the concrete bridge abutments the base grey before weathering.

And some more ballast along the mainline on the Carlisle Junction scene...

This is again my homemade ballast, which is graded washed sand, and dyed a medium grey colour...

  1. Hi Jason
What do you use to dye the sand for your ballast? I tried sieved bluestone which looked great when dry but went very dark when hit with diluted PVA.

    1. Hi Tony,

I posted this late last year, it explains how I got the final blend using a combination or RIT dyes and washed sand. Jason.

  2. Thanks very much Jason. The sand I'll start with is already a brownish sort of colour so it should work well. Tony
